I love me some white denim during the summer months.  These are my latest go-to pair.

Anyway, my love affair with white jeans really comes down to a few things.

White jeans go with pretty much everything in my closet, and they’re a quick way to add polish to an otherwise so-so outfit.

Versatility, instant polish….these are the typical hallmarks of clothes that, in my mind, are perfect for travel.  BUT….as much as I love white jeans…they’re just not travel-friendly.

When you love something, you know its shortcomings, too.

It’s true.  One scuff from a suitcase, a spill on an airplane, or an unfortunate TSA pat-down incident, and your white jeans are worthless before you even arrive at your destination.

So that means you can’t WEAR your white jeans to your destination.  Can you pack them?

Yes, but…..you know that when your toothpaste leaks, it will find its way, with military precision, to the front and center of your white jeans.

Dilemmas, dilemmas.

Despite these challenges, about a year ago, I was so DETERMINED to bring these summer favorites with me on a trip that I actually came up with a STRATEGY for how to pack white jeans.

So here you have it:

How to Pack White Jeans: Step-by-Step

Step 1: Turn your jeans inside out – just as an extra precaution.  Then fold them in half the long way, one leg on top of the other.

Step 2: Fold your jeans in half again at the knee.  They should look like this:

Step 3: Lay the jeans on a flat surface.  Take another item you plan to pack (good options would be a t-shirt folded in half the long way, or a scarf), and layer this second piece on top of the white jeans. This extra layer is your white jeans insurance policy.

IMPORTANT: make sure the second item of clothing isn’t a color or fabric that will bleed or rub off on your white jeans!  This is not a good time to grab your dark wash or black jeans.

Step 4: Flip the jeans and the second piece of clothing over, so that the jeans are laying on top.

Step 5: Roll everything up!

When you’re done, it’ll look like this:

The second layer (your insurance policy) prevents anything in your suitcase from rubbing off onto your jeans and rendering them useless upon arrival.

All rolled up?  Now you’ve got a perfectly wrapped white jean burrito that you can tuck in your suitcase for safekeeping until you’re ready to unpack at your destination!

It’s pretty simple (surely I am not the first person to have constructed a denim burrito), but it WORKS.

I do pretty much the same thing with any other piece of white clothing that I want to bring with me, and it works like a charm.  Hope this helps next time you’re looking to add some white denim to your packing list!
