FAQ

by The Belle Voyage

Who are you, lady??  Will you blog about your personal life?

Right now, the Belle Voyage is focused on all things travel.  There may be a few tidbits about my personal life thrown in here and there but I feel that the content my readers are most interested in relates to traveling.  Over time the blog may evolve but for now you have a peek inside my travel diaries and travel dreams so that’s a good start!

Why is this site geared towards women?  Everyone travels!

I couldn’t agree more, and I certainly welcome all readers and followers!  But when I started this blog, I sat down to think about what resources are already out there that are geared towards all travelers and why my personal experiences were unique.  I haven’t been to the most far-flung destinations.  My photos aren’t the most beautiful.  I’m not a professional journalist.  I don’t have limitless resources to travel all of the time.  But what I can offer is a little bit of each of these, coupled with my individual perspective based on my own experiences.  And when I think about my experiences on the road, some (not all!) of these relate to being female and admittedly, girlie.  I’m not ashamed to be concerned about travel-size makeup compacts, shoes that can handle running through an airport, or finding a jacket that will keep me warm on a plane but still go with my sheath dress.  Because that is my reality, and there’s not a lot out there that focuses on that subject matter.  My guess is that the audience for these subjects will largely be women so I write this blog with that in mind.

What makes you an expert?

I certainly don’t claim to be an expert!  But travel has always been a big part of my life.  I have lived and studied in four different countries (the US, England, Japan and Australia), and have traveled extensively for work and also for personal purposes.  I usually travel at least once a month for work, and 4-5 times a year for personal purposes.  Over the years, I’ve learned many things the hard way that I wish someone had told me, so this blog is meant to be helpful to others who are often away from home.  In addition, I love the idea of inspiring others, whether its by sharing a trip I’ve taken, a dream destination, or just ways to make your weekend getaway go more smoothly.

What kind of camera and lens do you use?

I use a Canon EOS Rebel T2i.  All photos on the blog are my own unless stated otherwise.  I have two lenses: the one that came with my camera (adequate) and my favorite lens ever: a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4.  This lens is fantastic for portraits, close-ups, and shooting in low light.  It’s an investment but I highly recommend it.  I am slowly teaching myself photography so if you have any tips, I always welcome them!

Can you help me plan my next trip?

I do most of my research on TripAdvisor which is a great resource.  I recommend starting there to get general information and then reach out with specific questions.  All I ask is that you check my Destinations: Been There page first to see if I’ve been where you’re headed.  If it’s on my lineup, send me an email and I’ll do my best to help.
