Remember a while back when I told you I was going to try and squeeze in a beachy vacation at some point this summer?
I had the best of intentions to plan something, but this spring was so crazy, that I just never got around to it. It started to seem like there would BE no beachy vacation this summer. And let’s be honest – for someone who lives in San Diego, that’s not exactly tragic. But I was still drooling over the possibility of some relaxing time away from work.
A few weeks ago, though, it ALLLLLL came together. Nothing like a last minute summer vacation to wrap up my favorite season!
So in a few short days, I’ll be heading to…..HAWAII!!
If this is sounding familiar, it’s because a last minute weekend trip to Hawaii materialized earlier this year. I had an amazing time, which you can read about here. This time, I’m going for a whole two weeks – and I’m so giddy with excitement that I can barely finish my rosé. Two whole weeks away from work feels so…European.
So what’s on the agenda?
I’m spending the first week of my trip at Hualalai on the Big Island, a little slice of Hawaiian heaven, and home to the coolest turtle-filled beach I’ve ever seen. I’ll be there with girlfriends, so week #1 is definitely a girls trip, no holds barred.
There will be umbrella drinks. There will be confusion as we try to grill something. There will be swapping of maxi dresses. There will also be flash tattoos.
You get the idea.
As an aside, 2015 seems to be the year of girls trips, none of which were really planned far ahead of time, and all of which have been phenomenal! I had a girls weekend in San Francisco, another girls trip to Las Vegas, and yet another girls trip coming up in September (maybe even two – stay tuned). GIRLFRIENDS 4EVA.
For week #2, I’m heading to Kauai, where I’m meeting Mr. Belle Voyage. If you’ve never been to Kauai, it is exactly how you might imagine a tropical island to look. No buildings can be taller than a coconut tree – which might be the first city building ordinance that I have ever felt warmly towards.
We’re staying on the south part of the island in Poi’pu for a few nights (thanks to my Starwood points and shopping habits) and then heading up north to Princeville for the remainder of the trip. Week #2 is all about relaxing poolside, sunset dinners, general cheesiness, and maaaaaybe a hike if I can tear myself away from lounging.
Also: I just might try the whole helicopter day trip thing. We’ll see.
