Travel Clothing

Here’s the deal: some clothes work better than others for traveling. But just because you’re packing a suitcase, doesn’t mean you should leave your style at home.

I love finding versatile, packable clothing pieces that are chic and stylish, and putting together travel capsule wardrobes to make packing light super simple. With the right pieces, you can combine them in creative ways that allow for efficient packing.

My tried-and-true clothing stapes are listed here. Click for even more posts about travel fashion!

  • Leggings: Yes, you could buy cheaper leggings. But I’ve had these for nearly a decade and they still look brand new. I promise they’re worth it.
  • Jeans: Jeans with stretch are a must when it comes to travel. I can’t get enough of these Madewell jeans!
  • Leather jacket: If you only buy one jacket, buy a black leather jacket. I wear mine more than anything else in my closet, and it comes with me on every trip.
  • Sneakers: I love Veja sneakers because they’re chic, go with everything, and are also sustainably made.
  • Cardigan: There’s no better cardigan than the Chrysalis Cardigan from Encircled. You can wear it 8 different ways, including as a dress!
  • Dress: Lately I’ve been loving tank dresses for travel because I can dress them up or down, and they don’t wrinkle when I pack them.

Travel Essentials

There are lots of products out there that claim to be “travel essentials”. But what do you ACTUALLY need? And which bags and accessories make the cut?

Stick with well-researched and long-lasting staples that you can bring with you on every trip, and you can’t go wrong.

My favorite travel accessories and essentials are listed below. If you need more help, check out my comprehensive list of travel essentials for women.

  • Carry on suitcase: This one has interior and exterior pockets to help organize your things, and expands (just in case you find some things to bring home!).
  • Checked suitcase: I rarely check a bag, but if it’s ever needed, hard-sided luggage is the way to go to keep your things as safe as possible.
  • Weekender bag: I adore this weekender bag! It’s the perfect size, and I love the separate compartment for shoes.
  • TSA-friendly liquids bag: Skip the Ziplock bag and get yourself a reusable clear one-quart bag that won’t leak!
  • Travel size toiletry bottles: I love this set because you can label your toiletries. And they won’t leak. Ever.
  • Clear pouches: I keep my stuff organized with these clear zippered pouches that hold everything from cables to makeup!

In Flight essentials

Packing the right in-flight essentials for a long haul flight can mean the difference between being miserable and actually enjoying the ride, and it’s also important to know what to pack in your carry on vs checked bag.

When you’re flying long haul, a well-packed carry on bag will keep you comfortable, cozy, and entertained.

Here’s what to bring (and what to leave at home!):

  • iPad: I use my iPad to download movies, books and magazines that keep me entertained during long flights.
  • AirPods: Headphones on any flight are a must, and I absolutely LOVE my AirPods Pro. The noise cancellation feature is a total lifesaver.
  • Foot hammock: Nothing makes coach feel like first class more than this foot rest!
  • Cozy scarf: Made from the coziest of fabrics, this scarf adds the perfect finishing touch to any travel outfit and keeps me warm on the plane.
  • Trtl neck pillow: The Turtl neck pillow is a cult favorite in the world of travel bloggers, and there’s a reason why!
  • Eye mask: Essential for trying to get some rest during your flight. This one is form-fitting to your face so it blocks out the most light.

Travel Toiletries & Beauty Products

If you want to look your best while traveling, but still pack light, you’ll need to learn how to pack makeup for a flight and how to fit all of your toiletries into a single one-quart bag.

Packing light isn’t always easy if you love beauty products, but it helps to start with the right packing list!

Click below for the checklist, and then check out a few of my favorite products, listed here.

  • Flat iron: I love that this flat iron has an adjustable temperature setting. It’s perfect for hair that has a tendency to misbehave in humidity (like mine!).
  • Silk scrunchies: If you have long hair, hair ties are essential when you’re traveling! I use these to sleep with my hair in a bun and they don’t leave a dent.
  • Makeup: My favorite eyeliner, mascara, and lip pencil are a few of the staples in my cosmetics bag.
