When it comes to packing beauty products for tropical vacations, sometimes less is more.

Hot temperatures, humidity, and laid-back vibes all mean that I want to keep it simple when it comes to beach beauty products….yet also look decent in all those vacation photos.  Don’t we all?

This was exactly my mindset when I thought about what to bring with me in my makeup bag to Hawaii.  Here’s a few things I found that made my vacation beauty routine as simple as possible.

Are you headed to Hawaii?  If so, check out my best tips for Hawaii vacation planning – I’ve got everything you need to know for the perfect trip to these incredible islands!

Hair Products for Beach Travel

When I was in Hawaii, I went an entire two weeks without blow-drying my hair ONCE.  And I survived.  If you’re planning a trip to Hawaii in the future, check out my perfect Kauai itinerary for first time visitors to the island!

I owe much of that survival to a few new hair products that I brought with me, geared specifically towards the wash-and-go routine that seems to be about all I can manage on a beach vacation.

Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray: a classic, but for a reason, and that reason is BEACHY WAVES.  Nobody does it better.  Spray, twist, dry, go.  I love that this product now comes in a travel size option, too!  You know how I am about my travel size beauty products.

Moroccan Oil: Another classic, but I am a new addition to the hair oil bandwagon, so this was new to me.  I had read somewhere that putting a little Moroccan Oil in your hair when it’s wet and then letting it air-dry is great for low-maintenance style.  Whoever wrote that, wherever they wrote it….they were totally right.

Bumble & Bumble Don’t Blow It (H)air Styler: I first mentioned this new product back in this post on my favorite travel hair products.  I brought it with me to Hawaii, and I’m so glad I did!  It didn’t get any easier than running some of this styling cream through my hair after a shower.  It gave me the perfect amount of texture in my hair but it didn’t feel product-y.  Success.

Makeup for Beach Travel

MAC Eye Pencil in Teddy: OK, I suppose there’s nothing especially BEACHY about this eye pencil, apart from the fact that I got it just before my trip, so I knew it’d be coming with me!  BUT – it is a super versatile shimmery chocolate color, so it’s a great, simple way to add some definition to your eyes without a really heavy look – which is perfect for tropical evenings.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow primer: I know, who wants to use primer if you’re trying to keep it SIMPLE?  Me, because I have naturally oily skin.  So without primer, my makeup sliiiiiides right off with any slight increase in temperature or humidity.  I’ve been using this primer for a long time, but on this trip, I discovered that putting it underneath my bottom lashes makes liner stay put there too, despite heat and humidity.  And to think that all this time, I’d been just using it on my eyelid.  Revelations.

What else filled your makeup bag this summer?
